Racing is on at Ascot today, with some of the top trainers from around the country being present, there are seven races on the card, the going is good to firm and at the moment the sun is shining.
At 3.30 the Class 1, Carraig Insurance EBF Stallions Breeding Winners Valiant Stakes for Mares and Fillies is due to run with a field of nine runners over a mile.
Irish Rookie is today’s favourite, but these races can throw a spanner in the works, she was 4th on her last journey out at Newmarket, trained by Martyn Meade and ridden today by Ryan Moore, she could do the business. Odds on Irish Rookie today are 11/8 with William Hill.
The second favourite today is the Chris Wall trained Mix and Mingle, she has had five starts and two wins, but her last journey out at Newmarket she came 8th in the field, that race went to Minding, unsurprisingly. Odds today for Mix and Mingle are 5/2 with Ladbrokes.
Third favourite with the bookies is Richard Hannon's Black Cherry, with 13 races under her belt, two wins, three third places and four fourths, her last journey out gained her a second place at Pontefract. Odds today with the bookies are 7/1 with Bet365.
Ryan Moore and Martyn Meade have a 44% strike rate when they team up, which is probably why Irish Rookie has been picked out today. Moore is certainly having a great season, his pairings with Aidan O’Brien surely put him contention for this year’s most successful jockey.
Plenty of racing to look forward to this weekend, racing today is also at Chepstow, Newmarket, Thirsk, Uttoxeter and York. Across the Channel, there is racing at Down Royal and Wexford.
