They won just three of their opening 15 Premier League matches, despite enjoying a stunning European campaign.
They lost 18 matches in total, that was 15 more than they lost throughout their entire title-winning campaign.
Shakespeare and the board will be looking to learn the lessons and improve this season, with certain players needing to be sold.
With the sides around them looking to strengthen during the summer it is vital that the Foxes do the same.

Cup Failures
Leicester have had a mixed run in the cups this season, losing to Chelsea in the early stages of the EFL Cup.
They did reach the Fifth Round of the FA Cup having beaten Everton and Derby County, they did lose to Millwall in the end.
It was in the Champions League where the Leicester of old could be found, they won their group in emphatic style losing just the one match.
They were able to beat Sevilla 3-2 on aggregate and were eventually knocked out by Atletico Madrid, delivering a spirited performance in the process.
Top Stats
Jamie Vardy ended as the club's top Premier League scorer for the second consecutive season, with 13 goals and 5 assists.
Marc Albrighton had another pivotal season, ending with the most assists (6).
Robert Huth won the most aerial battles up top with 94, and registered the most clearances (220).
Christian Fuchs had an excellent season with the most tackles (97) and the most interceptions (71).
Their final points tally was 44, that was 37 points less than last season, finishing eleven places lower.
Overall it's a poor season for Leicester, they have dramatically fallen from grace and sacked the greatest manager in their history.
Transfer Speculation
Craig Shakespeare will have a huge job on to rebuild after this appalling season, they will need to buy carefully.
The main issue for Leicester will be buying high-quality players to progress, and ones to match their counter-attacking style.
They have signed the highly rated Harry Maguire from Hull so far, adding quality to their back line.
The potential signing of Kelechi Iheanacho would be a great acquisition.
Their biggest issue will be holding onto the likes of Kasper Schmeichel and wantaway star Riyad Mahrez.
