Man City's Final Premier League Position: 3rd

This Premier League Review sees Manchester City's season assessed, ultimately it is one they will be slightly disappointed with.

The noisy neighbours came into the season on the back of a fourth-placed finish, narrowly finishing above Manchester United.

It was a season that finally saw Pep Guardiola grace the City dugout, with the serial winner highly coveted by the City owners.

To secure Guardiola's signature was a coup, with the Spaniard winning everything during stints with Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

The style of play was the biggest attraction, with City looking to reach the pinnacle and secure a Champions League trophy.

This season was always going to be tough, with Guardiola pitting his wits against the likes of Wenger, Klopp, Mourinho, Conte and Mauricio Pochettino.

Ultimately though it is a season without silverware and no further progression in Europe, the first of Guardiola's career.

Great Start

Pep Guardiola's side made an unbeaten start to the season, winning their opening eleven matches, a club record.

August and September were great months for City, they were unbeaten domestically and in Europe.

October was where it began to unravel, they won just one fixture and that was in the last week against West Brom.

Ultimately their Champions League campaign ended in disappointment, they were beaten in the last 16 by Monaco (6-6 on aggregate).

Guardiola's side won their last four successive matches in the Premier League, they lost six games all season.

They finished 15 points behind Antonio Conte's side, they are the first side to do the domestic double over Pep.

Cup Run

Manchester City also progressed to the Semi-Final's of the FA Cup this season, losing 2-1 to eventual winners Arsenal.

Guardiola will be expected to win a trophy next season, ultimately City's goals will be winning the Premier League & Champions League.

Ultimately for Guardiola and his men it has been a season of near misses, they will be highly competitive next year.
