We are set for another fine days racing and with the sun out the ground continuing to dry.

14:00 Betfred Glorious Stakes

We start the day with a good looking Group 3 over a mile and a half. Luca Cumani has a great record in this race having won three of the past eight renewals and his runner Connecticut looks to be a leading player. He won a Listed race at Pontefract on his seasonal debut in June and was mightily impressive. The standard he beat that day is questionable but he has the look of the Group horse and should run well.

The Corsican was a decent enough fourth in the Prince of Wales Stakes at Ascot (Group 1) and is a short priced favourite here. The extra two furlongs in this race will present a test but as he is sired by Galileo it can be assumed he would get the trip and his first two wins as a three year old came over this distance.

Hillstar is an interesting runner although having been largely disappointing in his two runs this year, albeit in better company, he has the class to take this if rediscovering his old form. They were both runs on ground that was firm enough and even though the ground is drying out here, it will still be more to his liking.

14:35 Bonhams Thoroughbred Stakes

Another Group 3 and this time over a mile. Convey is the unknown in the race, he won his only start on the polytrack at Kempton in October last year and hasn't been seen since so could be anything.

It is hard to get away from Latharnach who's second behind Gleneagles in the St James Palace Stakes at Ascot last time out is easily the best form on offer. He was staying on at the finish and I'm sure he will be run closer to the pace this time around and if so, should take all the beating.

15:10 Betfred Mile

There are 20 runners for the one mile handicap and the list is headed by Royal Hunt Cup winner GM Hopkins. There were thirty runners in that race so the hustle and bustle of this one shouldn't be a problem. However, as he will surely be produced late on by Richard Hughes he will need some luck in finding a gap.

Basem is a horse I really like and I think he could turn out to be better than a handicapper. He has won his last two races so has jumped up the weights, however he is an improving horse and I expect him to go close here.

Munaaser was just behind Basem in the Coral Challenge at Sandown and is two pounds better off here. He has a tricky draw in stall four though so is another who will need the race to pan out favourably.

15:45 Qatar King George Stakes

A good looking Group 2 five furlong dash with Muthmir the 5/1 favourite. His run last time out at Newmarket was disappointing but that was over six furlongs and he is a different proposition over five. He was a very close third in the Kings Stand Stakes at Ascot (Group 1) and looks primed to run well again here.

Cotai Glory is a good sprinter but his successes have come on good to firm or firm ground which he won't have here.

Moviesta won this two years ago and this appears to be the target again this year. A recent third place at the Curragh in a decent enough race shows good form and it would be no surprise to see him make the frame here.

Kingsgate Native seems to have been around forever but is more than capable of winning a race like this. I like the booking of James Doyle and am hoping he races up closer to the pace than his previous two runs. If he does I feel he has an excellent chance of grabbing a place at least at a nice price.

16:20 Betfred Supports Jack Berry House Nursery

This is a wide open six furlong handicap and it would definitely pay to keep stakes at a minimum here. A speculative vote goes to the Richard Hannon trained Belvoir Bay. He won a maiden very easily before finishing sixth in a good race at Newbury. The winner of that race ran well in defeat here on Wednesday in a Group 2 so the form looks strong.

16:55 L'Ormarins Queen Plate Stakes

A nice looking fillies Group 3 can go to Osaila. She finished seventh in the 1,000 Guineas where she was up with the pace for a long time before fading in the final furlong. Back over seven furlongs which appears to be her optimum trip can see her take the spoils here.

17:30 Betfred Mobile Stakes

A three year old handicap over one mile and three furlongs to finish the days proceedings. This is another where limited stakes are advised as it's another tough one.

I'm going to be throwing a few pennines at Mark Johnston's Rhythmical. He won a maiden at Leicester over nine furlongs and shaped as if the extra two furlongs here would really be to his liking.

  1. Cracking read with you all the way aboard Hillstar in the opener especially with the booking of Olivier peslier in the saddle. Possibly taken little longer coming hand this season after last yrs exploits in Canada ! However the best bet on the card for myself is Moviesta in the 3.45 showed latest behind stepper point was returning back to best ,was also 3rd in the race last year when beaten in 3 way finish ‘ been the objective ever since ?
These are my 2 bets for day 4 of Goodwood good luck and ATB with the selections ?

    1. Cheers Steve.

Kingsgate Native is more of a speculative suggestion as I have followed him for a long time. I agree that Moviesta has a great chance, third last year and won it in 2013.

Both of Hillstar’s runs this season were muddling races, I’m hoping for a stronger pace here although it’s certainly not guaranteed.

      Good luck!
