Aidan O’Brien has two runners in the Dubai Fillies Mile at Newmarket today at 3.10. Between the two they have won this race six times in the last nine years and today, they have nearly half the field of runners.
O’Brien has two runners, Hydrangea and Rhododendron. These two fillies are quite special; most of their runs have been in Ireland and the usually run together, which is not unusual in the case of O’Brien’s horses. Out of five races Hydrangea has one win and three-second places, last time out at The Curragh in September, she was second. Rhododendron has only raced four times and she has had two wins, one-second place and one-third place. Last time out she came third with Dettori riding her, normally its Heffernan who rides her.
Today Hydrangea is ridden by Seammie Heffernan and Rhododendron is ridden by Ryan Moore, I would think Moor usually has first choice of the Ballydoyle stable so he must see more potential in Rhododendron today. But I wouldn’t rule out a top three place for both of them today. Odds on Hydrangea are 6/1 with BetVictor and Rhododendron is 9/2 with William Hill.
The bookies favourite today for this race is Sobetsu, the Charlie Appleby-trained horse is ridden by William Buick, so this looks set to be a great race with some of the top jockeys racing today. This is a Godolphin-owned horse and she has two starts and one win, crucially though they have both been on this ground at Newmarket. This is ultimately why she is favourite today. Odds on Sobetsu today are 2/1 with Ladbrokes.
The other Godolphin-owned horse is Easy Victory, trained by Saeed Bin Suroor and ridden today by Frederick Tylicki. She has also had two previous runs with one win, but last time out came in the back of the field, crucially this was again at Newmarket, let’s hope that was just a blip. Odds on Easy Victory today are 33/1 with Bet365.
Sir Michael Stoute has Spatial running, also with two runs under her belt, both again here so don’t write her off. This is looking set to be a great race today, with some great fillies to look out for in the future. Odds on Spatial today are 9/2 with Coral.
