It’s nearly here, the most prestigious festival in June in the UK, Royal Ascot, where the royal family, especially The Queen will be in full attendance. So, just for beginners, here’s a little advice on who to watch out for, how to pick a winner and what to look out for betting wise .

One of the top trainers at Ascot is Aidan O’Brien; the Irish trainer has an exemplary record, especially when his colts go off as favourites in a race, his record is 14 wins from 29 entries. That’s in the last ten years, so not too shabby, five of which finished second. He’s definitely one to watch next week.

John Gosden is also a trainer to watch particularly in a specific set of formula; no price bigger than 14/1, non-handicapped races from 1m 4f to 7f. Since 2009 he produced a strike rate of 22% with his runners in this profile.

Look out for those successful Jockey’s too, Ryan Moore who broke the course records last year with his nine wins and then of course the Ascot favourite Frankie Dettori, who doesn’t remember his fantastic achievement of seven winners in seven races. Watch who these two are riding next week

Another trainer to keep an eye out for in the 2 year old section is American Wesley Ward; he loves Ascot and always seems to pull a winner or two out of the bag. Check the horse's form, has it travelled well, does it favour the ground conditions what did it do last time out, has the trainer added anything different to the ride such as cheek pieces or blinkers, this can all make a difference.

Lastly, check out the bookies offers for the week, if you’re new to betting, you can bag a few bargains and if you’re not there are some out there for loyal customers too, for example:

Ladbrokes are offering all customers, Best Odds guaranteed plus a boost on some prices.

Coral are offering all customers, Money back if your horse is beaten by a length.
