The feature race today at ascot is the Queen Anne Stakes running at 2.30 with 14 runners and riders, with rain overnight and more expected today, conditions are not ideal for the much fancied American horse Tepin. Trainer Mark Casse is confident in her abilities; she has won her last six races and has travelled extremely well. Although she isn’t used to too wet conditions she does like soft ground and with the Ascot course being sand based Casse in confident she can win.
As if it wasn’t enough to have a horse and trainer new to Ascot, Tepin’s jockey is also on his first outing in England, Julien Leparoux is one of America’s leading jockey’s, having left France at an early age and has never raced in the UK or Europe. Casse states, today is about her, he’s just glad to be at Ascot, with all its tradition, but he wants everyone to see how great his mare is. Odds for Tepin are 6/1 with William Hill today and most other bookies. Good luck to Tepin.
The favourite today is Belarado, the Roger Varian trained mare is 9/2 with Paddy Power this morning and should favour this ground, especially as the course is now declared as soft after rain overnight.
Second favourite is Erveyda, trained by J-C Rouget; she does not like soft ground so this course probably won’t suit her today, she has odds of 5/1 with Betvictor. The third favourite is Tepin, then Endless Drama, and she has odds of 6/1 with Ladbrokes. Not to be ruled out is the AP O’Brien horse Cougar Mountain odds are 28/1 with Bet365 but backed by Ryan Moore, you can’t rule this horse out, the winning trainer/ jockey combination shouldn’t be disqualified and with odds like this an each way bet could make a few quid for you. Cougar Mountain was second on her last outing so if she steps her game up she could be a real contender today especially with Ryan Moore pushing her on.
