It was another pretty tough day yesterday but we did manage another winner to keep us nicely in front for the week so far. Today's racing looks competitive again but there also looks like there are some good value opportunities to be had.
13:55 Sky Bet First Race Special Handicap
A large handicap to start off with and it's 6/1 the field. Top Tug for Sir Michael Stoute is the favourite and ran well enough at Goodwood before finding traffic which put paid to any chance. Better luck this time around and I think he will be there or thereabouts. Pencil looks capable of landing a race like this and with William Buick on board I like his chances.
14:30 Weatherbys Hamilton Lonsdale Cup
A Trip To Paris ran a really good race in the Goodwood Cup last month and I think he will take all the beating here. He has won four out of his last six races and even though he has top weight due to a penalty, he is the best horse in the race and I am confident of a good showing.
15:05 Sky Bet City Of York Stakes
Toofi is a speculative choice in what looks a really open race. He was a good second place in the Stewards Cup at Goodwood and there is a chance he can go one better here.
15:40 Coolmore Nunthrope Stakes
This five furlong Group 1 is the main race of the day and old favourite Sole Power can land this. Returning to five furlongs is a must for this horse and as long as new pilot Dettori can negotiate the inevitable traffic for this hold up horse, I think he is certain to be right there and has an excellent chance of winning at a nice price. He won this race last year under Richard Hughes and can do so again.
16:20 Brilliant Stallion Studs EBF Convivial Maiden Stakes
A good looking seven furlong maiden and Perkunas sets a decent standard after his second at Newmarket. Very Talented also made a useful debut finishing third and has some Group 1 entries so it obviously highly thought of by Godolphin. If he improves from his first run it will take a good horse to beat him here.
16:55 Nationwide Accident Repair Services Handicap
Rifle Range is bidding to complete a hat trick and looks a strong bet to do so. His previous win at Ascot looks useful and is lightly raced so the potential for further improvement is definitely there.
