There’s been enough bashing of Euro outers on social media platforms today, so we are going to get straight down to the business of today’s racing.
Running at 6.35 tonight at Chester in the Caldwell Construction Apprentice Handicap is Irish Optimism, which is a very aptly named horse, they are always optimistic. Trained by John Quinn, he has won previous outings; he has the pedigree and stamina to win tonight and looks like a good bet at 6/1 with most bookmakers like Ladbrokes. Add these facts to the fact that Kevin Stott is riding him; he’s won four from nine at this course and knows the course well enough to pull this out of the bag tonight. He also had a very good run out last time, in arguably a better standard of race and he came out top in that, so it’s all looking good for him today.
There are nine runners over 7f 122y and the going is good to soft. Today’s favourite is Mark Johnstone’s Galesburg, he has returned to winning ways after a few blips when he came up against better runners. No one can be ruled out of this race today though and in second favourite spot is Andrew Balding’s Viscount Barfield, although he hasn’t done that well recently either. Outback Blue should do well if the ground stays good and it doesn’t rain. He has odds of 8/1 with Coral today and Viscount Barfield is 7/2 with Bet365.
As I said, it is quite an open field and these are horses to watch for the future, and jockey’s to watch for the future. There is plenty of other racing on today, Cartmel, Doncaster, Newcastle, Yarmouth, Newmarket and the Curragh in Ireland.
Whilst the horse Brexit didn’t fare so well yesterday at Newmarket, the Brexit campaign did and we have voted to leave the European Union, for better or worse. Whilst some people have taken to social media to voice their disappointment in the people who voted to leave, I personally feel we have to turn every circumstance into our advantage, I’m sure that we will do that as a racing community and a country. Who knows we may be better off for it.
