Germany v England

This weekend sees a host of international friendlies and England take on the old enemy Germany in what should be an intriguing match which will give a good indication of where Roy Hodgon's men stand against one of the best sides that they can face in Euro 2016.

England have a good looking young team now which should mean they are competitive for the next ten years. They have several exciting players to choose from in midfield and attack and if they are used correctly they should be capable of creating plenty of chances against most teams. I have plenty of reservations about whether Hodgson if the right man to be able to get the best out of them but am hopeful they can perform in spite of him.

The defensive side of things worries me quite a bits we are weak in the centre back position and I am sure teams will target us there. We have a good choice of goal keepers however and hopefully they will keep us in games when we inevitably give up chances against the best teams.

I can see England making a familiar mistake and sitting deep against the Germans which will play right into their hands meaning they have plenty of possession and England will find it hard to get out of their half. Players like Marco Reus and Mario Goetze will be very difficult for the England defence to handle and although the signs are promising for this English team, I can see them losing by a couple of goals against the World Champions so will be backing them on the handicap.

Tryster for Charlie Appleby was a revelation last year winning six of his seven races and he has already won twice here at Meydan so far this year including a Group 1 last time out. Nine furlongs appears to be about his optimum trip and I think he will take all the beating here today. He travels very smoothly through his races and will be happy with the apparent lack of pace in this race as he would not want them to go thundering off.
