The three-day Cambridgeshire meeting begins at Newmarket today and it looks like being a fine three days of racing.
15:45 Tattersalls Sommerville Stakes
The highlight of day one is a two-year-old Group 3 being run over seven furlongs, with a few of these looking to press home their claims for next year's 2,000 Guineas.
Tip Two Win is the highest rated in the field on a mark of 107, and he has had the four races so far, winning two of them. He was a fine winner last time out over seven furlongs at Doncaster in a Listed race, where he quickened clear very nicely and looks a good prospect. That was on good to soft ground, however, his win in a novice race at Windsor was on much firmer ground in July so he looks fairly versatile. Trainer Roger Teal has had a few winners recently and Tip Two Win looks likely to go well.
Albishr, trained by Richard Hannon, won first time out at Haydock and has had two second-placed finishes since, last time out narrowly beaten in a Listed race over a mile at Salisbury. He looks the sort of horse that needs at least a mile and I think there's a chance he may get outpaced with the drop back to seven furlongs and step up in class. The booking of Ryan Moore is a positive, but over this distance, others are preferred.
Elarqam had only had the one run so far, where he was a ready winner of a novice stakes at York over today's distance. That was just a couple of weeks ago but the third and fourth in that race have come out and won since, so it gives the form a nice look to it and Mark Johnston has an extremely good record with his runners second time out. Elarqam is a Frankel colt and is as low as 20/1 for next year's Guineas. I think he could be a bit special and am hoping to see a big run from him here today.
