15:05 bet365 Charlie Hall Chase
This is a cracking renewal of the Charlie Hall Chase with all seven runners in with a shout of landing the spoils.
Oliver Sherwood's Many Clouds tops the ratings here today and the Grand National winner has shot up the weights since winning at Carlisle this time last year. He had an excellent season last time winning four of his five races with his only reverse coming in the Cheltenham Gold Cup. He is 23 pounds higher than this time last year and this is about a short a distance as he would want.
Menorah for Philip Hobbs was a winner in this last year and is only two pounds higher today. He also had a pretty good season which culminated in a Listed race win at Sandown. He can be a little bit hit or miss and he may struggle to give quite a bit of weight to the two at the head of the market.
Sam Winner is a proper stayer and I think Paul Nicholl's horse may get a little outpaced here today. He put a couple of wins together at the start of last season in good races at Aintree and Cheltenham but this is a definite step up and I find it hard to make a case for him winning.
Holywell was third behind Silviniaco Conti at Aintree last time and has definite place claims today if running up to a similar level. He is another who has to give weight away so Jonjo O'Neill will need to have him fully wound up if he is to put his head in front.
Ballynagour for David Pipe has always fallen just short at this kind of distance and I have a feeling the same will happen today against proven stayers with plenty of pace. He has run a couple of hurdles races in France this year winning one of them, however we need to back to Cheltenham 2014 for his last win over fences and that was two and a half miles. I think the extra distance will again prove too much and others are fancied a lot more.
Cue Card is the favourite but he has not won now for nearly two years when beating Dynaste into second place at Haydock in the Betfair Chase. He didn't look at his best last season and it remains to be seen whether his best days are behind him. If he can recapture his best form then he will certainly be in with a shout as he is getting weight from all bar one and he has shown that this distance is well within his reach.
Dynaste had a run over hurdles in France at Auteil a few weeks ago so that should have blown away any cobwebs. He went close without winning last season but this distance and ground are perfect for him and the fact that he is receiving weight from all bar Cue Card give him an excellent chance of landing the spoils today. He usually finishes his races really well and I think he will have too much for them today and run away with it at the end.
Premier League
Chelsea host Liverpool tomorrow at Stamford Bridge and the pressure is really on Jose Mourinho as some are suggesting a loss may spell the end of his second reign.
Chelsea played quite a few first team players in midweek and they were taken to extra time so that will surely have a bit of an effect on an ageing squad. Liverpool on the other hand made nine changes to the team that faced Southampton on Sunday and there will be a maximum of three players that played midweek in their starting line up. This can be a big bonus for Liverpool and I think if they start the game quickly and press in the way that Klopp will ask them to, they can cause Chelsea a lot of problems and the 3/1 on Liverpool to win is appealing. Christian Benteke is fit enough to start again and he can cause all sorts of problems for a Chelsea defence that has been leaking goals all over the place this season.
