It is the opening fixture of the new Football season, with Premier League Champions Chelsea taking on Arsenal at Wembley. Chelsea drew first blood in pre season but Arsenal still have bragging rights after winning the FA Cup against the Blues in May.

Chelsea vs Arsenal – Sunday 6th August 2017 – 14:00 - BT Sport

Chelsea are 6/5 with Alvaro Morata at 4/1 to score first.

Chelsea face Arsenal at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, in the first domestic match of the season, the Community Shield.

Antonio Conte's men come into this match on the back of a warm up defeat, this time a 2-1 loss against Inter Milan.

Former Manchester City man Stevan Jovetic opened the scoring for Inter (45+3), scoring from a penalty rebound.

It was a harsh and controversial penalty, with Jovetic making the most of an Azpilicueta challenge.

Manchester United target Ivan Perisic made it 2-0 (53), doubling the Nerazzurri's lead.

Chelsea did manage to register a goal, it will go down as one of the most bizarre goals they have scored though.

Geoffrey Kondogbia scored a bizarre own goal (74), somehow beating his own goalkeeper from 45 yards with a miscued pass back.

It means that the Champions finish their pre season in defeat, this game against Arsenal a huge match.

Success Indicator?

Conte ended his first season as a Premier League Champion, where they were the best side in the league by a distance.

This will be a tough season for them however, with the Champions League commitments they now have to juggle.

It is questionable whether success in the Community Shield ultimately leads to Premier League success.

The good news is that 52 per cent of finalists since 1992 have been crowned Premier League champions in the same season - 13 out of 25.

Blues Heavy Favourites

Conte's men go into this match as favourites, and will see this as an ideal opportunity to land an early psychological blow.

The Blues have already beaten Arsenal soundly in pre season but will have nightmares about the FA Cup Final defeat here in May still.

Chelsea will be looking to register their 58th win in 170 matches against Arsenal.

Pre Season Defeat

The Gunners come into this match in mixed form, after also losing their last pre season game in a 2-1 defeat against Sevilla.

Sevilla took the lead through Joaquin Correa (49), who latched onto Wissam Ben Yedder's excellent ball.

Alexandre Lacazette scored his first goal at the Emirates (62), to level the scoring.

But the hosts and the Emirates were stunned by an incredible goal just seven minutes later.

Juventus target Steven N'Zonzi (69) silenced the Emirates crowd with an incredible left footed strike into the top corner to make it 2-1.

Ultimately it was another pre-season defeat for the Gunners, it was an impressive win for the visitors.

Gunners Finish Fifth

Arsenal finished the season in fifth, the first time during Wenger's tenure they have failed to qualify for the Champions League.

They won their final five matches of the season though, despite a horrible fixture pile up but it will cost them dear.

They did manage to end the season with silverware, beating Chelsea 2-1 in the FA Cup final in May.

Gunners Underdogs

Arsenal come into this match as the underdogs, despite their FA Cup win Chelsea are the favourites.

Chelsea did beat them soundly in pre season, but the Gunners have the psychological edge at Wembley.

Arsenal will be looking to continue their overall form against Chelsea, they have won 64 of their 169 meetings.

Arsenal are 11/5 with Alexandre Lacazette at 11/2 to open the scoring.
