Manchester City vs Everton – Monday 21st August 2017 – 20:00 - Sky Sports Football

Man City are 21/20 with Sergio Aguero at 11/4 to score first.

Manchester City face Everton at the Etihad Stadium on Monday evening, a perfect match to end the second round of Premier League matches.

Pep Guardiola's side come into this match on the back of a 2-0 win against Brighton, an excellent start to their season.

The Seagulls defended admirably up until the 70th minute, when Sergio Aguero opened the scoring for the Citizens.

Lewis Dunk scored an unfortunate own goal just five minutes later (75), to give Brighton a tough opening scoreline.

Gabriel Jesus also saw a goal disallowed, with the ball striking the Brazillian's hand before going into the Seagulls net.

Ultimately, City were made to work very hard against the newly promoted Seagulls, but had enough class to win the match.

Success Needed

Manchester City had an underwhelming campaign last season, with Guardiola enduring the toughest season of his managerial career.

The Spaniard has spent well, spending well over £200 million on the likes of Bernardo Silva, Danilo, Benjamin Mendy and Kyle Walker.

He has looked to sort out the clubs defensive problems, with several signings across the back four.

They were already an exceptional attacking force, if they could solve their defensive problems as well they will be hard to stop.

City Favourites

Pep Guardiola's side come into this match as favourites, after a solid performance in their opening fixture.

This will be an intriguing encounter, with Everton having spent heavily in the summer themselves.

Man City will be looking to avenge the 4-0 defeat at Goodison last season.

Solid Start

The Toffees come into this match in good form, after a solid 1-0 win against Mark Hughes' Stoke side last weekend.

Wayne Rooney scored the only goal of the game for Everton (45+1), a fairytale start for Rooney on his return to Everton.

Everton dominated possession with 61% compared to Stoke's 39%, but both sides registered the same shots (9).

The Toffees were far more clinical when converting them on target though, with four on target compared with Stoke's one.

The result will have delighted Ronald Koeman, but this match will be a good indicator of where Everton currently are.

New Squad

It has been a productive off season for Everton, with manager Ronald Koeman recruiting heavily.

He has brought in the likes of Wayne Rooney, Davy Klassen, Jordan Pickford and Michael Keane to bolster his squad.

They have just signed Gylfi Sigurdsson from Swansea, an excellent acquisition, with the Icelandic international contributing to 21 Premier League goals last season.

It will be a huge season for Everton, with Ronald Koeman expected to deliver a top four finish.

Toffees Underdogs

Everton come into this match as the underdogs, with the Citizen's pedigree informing the odds.

Ronald Koeman's side will be looking to put in an excellent performance in this match, this will be a tough game for the Toffees.

Everton were unbeaten against Manchester City last season, a record Koeman will be keen to continue.

Everton are 5/2 with Wayne Rooney at 10/1 to open the scoring.
