12:40 JCB Triumph Hurdle Trial
Oceane for Alan King and Romain De Senam for Paul Nicholls were unextended on their recent victories and could be anything. Although Romain is the higher rated he has had two more runs and I think the biggest potential is in Oceane. He won his first race over 17 furlongs and I can see him powering away up with the hill today.
13:15 mallardjewellers.com Novices' Chase
Un Temps Pout Tout was rated 156 over hurdles so is a worthy favourite here for David Pipe who has an excellent record in this race. However, I like Blacklion, he was given a completely inadequate distance of two miles and three furlongs for his chasing debut and the three miles today is perfect for him. He jumped soundly enough first time out but was just outpaced so I expect him to really come to the fore today. If the favourite really takes to fences then he will be hard to stop, but at the prices I think Blacklion is the value.
13:50 Murphy Group Handicap Chase
Sausalito Sunrise for the Philip Hobbs and Richard Johnson combination was pulled up on his seasonal debut when favourite and clearly needed the run. He gets a speculative vote in what is a wide open handicap chase over a long distance. He will certainly strip fitter for this race and if he gets the distance he is weighted to be doing his best work at the business end of proceedings.
14:25 Paddy Power Gold Cup Chase
A wide open renewal that could be won by the majority of the field. Sound Investment for Paul Nicholls is the top weight but he is only four pounds heavier than when winning at Aintree a few weeks ago. I am taking a chance on him continuing his fine form by taking this valuable prize at a big price.
John's Spirit has run well here in this race for the past two years and now his fitness is confirmed he should be there or there abouts at the finish.
Kings Palace is a big danger and he has won his fair share of races including around this track four times. This race is half a furlong shorter than he is used to however so it will be interesting how he goes for speed here.
