Chelsea face Burnley at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon, on the opening weekend of the 2017/18 Premier League season.

The Blues come into this match in mixed form, having lost the Community Shield fixture against Arsenal on penalties.

Victor Moses gave Chelsea the lead just after the break (46), with the Nigerian international chesting and volleying past Petr Cech.

Pedro was given a straight red card for a cynical foul on Mohamed Elneny in the 80th minute.

Sead Kolasinac (82) capped an impressive debut for Arsenal, with a headed goal with eight minutes to go.

That goal meant the game eventually went to penalties, with the Gunners winning that shootout 4-1.

Pressure On Conte 

Antonio Conte will be looking for a strong start to the season, they face away strugglers Burnley and will be targeting maximum points.

They won the Premier League in style last season, but the FA Cup defeat proves they still have to improve.

Conte has been publicly annoyed at the lack of transfer activity, and the situation surrounding Diego Costa.

 

Blues Favourites

Chelsea come into this match as favourites, with Chelsea's pedigree informing the odds.

The Blues will be looking to win this opening fixture, facing an ideal opponent in Burnley.

Chelsea haven't lost a fixture against Burnley since 1973, Conte will be looking to avoid losing that record.

Huge Challenge

The Clarets come into this match on the back of a 1-0 win against Hannover, a great result for Dyche's men.

Ben Mee scored the only goal of the game, which was abandoned after crowd trouble.

The game was called off at the break on police advice after concerns over supporter safety following unrest in the Cricket Field Stand.

There was no second half at Turf Moor, meaning Burnley's pre season preparations have been slightly hampered.

Burnley have had an unbeaten pre season, they have faced a variety of opponents and will be confident ahead of the Chelsea game.

Tough Start

Burnley had a great campaign last season, with the Clarets finishing sixteenth in the Premier League.

It was an excellent achievement considering the calibre of sides around them, with survival their only aim.

Dyche will be feeling the pressure though, with another tough season in the Premier League awaiting them.

They have made some excellent signings though, with Jack Cork, Phil Bardsley and Jon Walters joining the club.

Burnley Underdogs

Sean Dyche's side come into this match as underdogs, with their poor away record last season informing the bookies.

This will be a tough match for Burnley, traditionally they have struggled against Chelsea.

Burnley will be looking to make it a first win in eleven matches against Chelsea, they face a huge task.

Burnley are 11/1 with Andre Gray and Sam Vokes at 12/1 to score first.
