Premier League Review: Bournemouth

This Premier League Review sees Bournemouth's season assessed, with the Cherries enjoying an excellent season.

Eddie Howe's side came into the season on the back of a 16th placed finish, with the Cherries narrowly avoiding relegation.

It was a season that saw the newly promoted club achieve their main aim, staying in the Premier League.

The challenge for Bournemouth was to survive again and push up the table, with the club achieving both of those aims.

Eddie Howe has done an incredible job at the club, with the club improving year on year playing attractive football.

The calibre of managers in the league is incredible, with Howe rightly regarded as one of the brightest young managers around.

Considering that the club has one of the smallest stadiums and transfer budgets they have achieved a minor miracle again.

Bournemouth endured a tough start to the season, failing to win a game in August (L2, D1).

Their first win came against West Brom at the start of September, and an early highlight was the win against Everton.

They lost 16 matches in total, this was the same as their illustrious rivals on the south coast in Southampton.

It will be enormously difficult for the Cherries to top this season, a 9th placed finish is a stunning season for the club.

With the sides around them looking to strengthen during the summer it is vital that the Cherries do the same.

Eddie Howe's side registered 12 wins during the course of the season, level pegging with seven other sides.

They finished 47 points behind Antonio Conte's side, registering just under half of their total points.

Bournemouth had a poor run in the cups this season, bowing out early of the League and FA Cups.

They lost 3-2 to Championship side Preston in the League Cup, and were knocked out of the FA Cup by Millwall after losing 3-0.

The Cherries definitely have room for improvement in this category, although their league position will be the priority.

Joshua King enjoyed an outstanding season, ending as the club's top Premier League scorer with 16 goals.

Ryan Fraser capped off a fine breakthrough season, ending with the most assists (5).

Steve Cook also had an excellent season in defence, winning the most aerial battles (145), the most clearances (352) and most interceptions (76).

Their final points tally was 46, that was 4 points better than last season, finishing seven places higher.

Overall it's an excellent season due to their top ten finish, they will be targeting a better performance in the domestic cups though.

Eddie Howe will have a huge job on his hands to better this incredible season, but he has always defied the odds.

The main issue for Bournemouth will be their defence, they have always been a free-scoring side.

They have already signed Asmir Begovic, a clear sign of their intent to strengthen the backline and add real quality.

The potential signing of Nathan Ake would be an incredible acquisition, they have already sounded out Jermaine Defoe as well.
