Crystal Palace's Final Premier League Position: 14th

This Premier League Review sees Crystal Palace's season assessed, with the Eagles enduring a tough season.

Alan Pardew's side came into the season on the back of a 15th placed finish, with the Eagles ending the season in poor fashion.

It was a tale of two halves for Palace, they had an excellent first half to the season, but failed to capitalise on that in the second half winning just two matches in 2016.

Pardew had done an excellent job at the club, as well as with his previous club Newcastle, but their disastrous form meant the Eagles were left with no choice but to sack Pardew.

They bought in relegation saviour Sam Allardyce, with the former England manager proving his class yet again in keeping the Eagles in the Premier League.

Mixed Start

Palace endured a mixed start to the season, with three different results in their opening three matches.

Between October and December they were on a run of six successive defeats, then in their next ten matches, they lost nine.

That was the final straw for the Palace board, they gave Pardew as many opportunities as possible.

They lost 21 matches in total, that was 3 more than they lost the previous season, their defence was really poor.

With Allardyce choosing to retire in the summer they have now appointed Frank De Boer as their new manager.

All of the sides around them will be looking to strengthen during the summer, it is vital that the Eagles do the same.

Palace registered 12 wins during the course of the season, level pegging with several other sides above them.

They finished 52 points behind Antonio Conte's side, despite being one of the only sides to beat them at Stamford Bridge.

Cup Failures

Palace have had a mixed run in the cups this season, losing to finalists Southampton in the early stages of the EFL Cup.

They also exited the FA Cup at the second time of asking, losing 3-0 at home to a rampant Manchester City.

Along with their poor form in the league their cup performances have been poor, this is another growing inditement of the lack of respect that the domestic cups get.

Top Stats

Christian Benteke ended as the club's top Premier League scorer, with the Belgian striker scoring 15 goals and winning the most aerial battles (322).

Marco Arnautovic had the most assists (9), as well as scoring seven goals, an excellent return for the winger.

Yohan Cabaye continued to pull the strings in midfield, with the third-most passes (984) and crucially the most interceptions (72).

Damien Delaney had the most clearances (150) and Joel Ward had the most tackles (89).

Their final points tally was 41, that was 1 point less than last season, but crucially they finished one places higher.

Overall it's another poor season for Palace, especially given the quality within the squad.

Transfer Speculation

Frank De Boer will have a huge job on to rebuild after this poor season, he will need to get the best out of this talented squad.

The main issue for Palace in recent times has been their defence, they will need to buy the quality needed.

They have yet to make any signings of note, they will also need to consider offers for under performing players.

Their biggest issue will be holding onto their key players, with Christian Benteke and Wilfried Zaha linked with moves away.
