It's the final day of the Ebor meeting and we finish with some nice looking races.
15:10 Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Gimcrack Stakes
Finnegan is the favourite of this Group 2 six furlong sprint and it's not hard to see why. He has only run twice and one of those being on turf, however he won that by an impressive five lengths and his trainer has a great record over here. At 3/1 he is short enough for a horse that still has plenty to prove.
Buratino has been one of the top two year olds this year but he has to carry a penalty for his excellent win in the Coventry Stakes and I have a feeling the ground here may be a little on the easy side for him.
Ajaya is one of two entries for William Haggas and the stable is flying at the moment. He looked impressive when just beaten in the Robert Papin at Maisons-Laffitte last month and should prove popular here.
Steady Pace was third in the Richmond Stakes at Goodwood with Tasleet one place in front of him. That form looks strong as Tasleet has won here at York this week and the Godolphin runner can give a good account of himself here.
I actually prefer the lesser fancied of the two Haggas runners. He has won both of his races so far with the second was on soft ground. Neither race looks particularly strong but you can only beat what is put in front of you and he has done that so far. I expect him to have come on a great deal from his last run four weeks ago and feel he is definitely overpriced at 12/1. With the nine runners still standing their ground he is an outstanding each way bet as in my opinion he is sure to make a bold bid to make the frame and perhaps win.
15:45 Betfred Ebor
Fields of Anthenry is comfortably the highest rated in this field and he is aiming to become the first three year old to win this race since 2001. Denis O'Brien is a usual claimer to have onboard and his five pound claim could come in really handy. FoA likes to race prominently which won't be easy here from stall 22, however that shouldn't prove too much of an inconvenience over this trip and I think he has the potential to completely outclass this field.
Premier League
The weekend kicks of this weekend with Newcastle making the trip to Old Trafford. Although Utd have looked pretty average so far they have two wins from two and will be confident of making it a third straight win here.
Chelsea make the trip to West Brom on Sunday under a little bit of pressure as they have taken just the one point from their opening two games and having been comprehensibly beaten by City last weekend.
City play away to an Everton that were great value for a terrific three nil win away to Southampton and are a team that can cause City problems.
There is a big match on Monday night as Arsenal entertain Liverpool. Arsenal had a good win away to Crystal Palace last weekend in a game that could have easily gone the other way. Liverpool have won both of their games by one goal to nil but haven't look especially great and are still getting to grips with bedding in a few new players. Benteke got off the mark against Bournemouth and he is the kind of striker that could the Arsenal defence a lot of problem. I think Liverpool will go there to keep it tight and hope to hit Arsenal on the counter attack in the same kind of way that West Ham did on the opening weekend of the season.
