Newmarket 17:15

Although this race only has five runners it is the most intriguing and highest class of the afternoon here at Newmarket. A seven furlong handicap where it looks like being around 7/1 for the outsider of the five.

Easy Tiger has won three of his seven races so far and only just missed out by short head at Newmarket last week. His one race in this class ended in quite a heavy defeat and I think he may have found his level in class four racing. He is also up another two pounds for the tight second place and I think his current mark will prove a little too much in this company.

Chevallier is chasing a four timer (has won four from the last five) and won over a mile a mile at Sandown on his latest outing. He has a six pound penalty for that win and I wonder if this will be a bit too much to cope with. He is obviously in great form and is full of running at the moment but having only won his previous race by a head, I think the extra six pounds will see him beaten here.

Mister Brightside won a couple of races in lower grades before tackling a similar level to this race on his latest outing having been raised six pounds for his previous win. Although he encountered a bit of traffic it was still a bit much for him and I have a feeling it will be the same today. Seven furlongs does seem to be his trip but he will need to improve again to win this.

Field Game ran in a higher class mile race last time out at Ascot and wasn't disgraced. Previous to that he came second in a similar class race to this and on similar ground so he will be there or thereabouts at the business end of proceedings. He has also been lowered a pound since his previous run which will help.

Richard Fahey's Beardwood is the one I am confident on here and he was sixth last time in a good class two handicap at Newmarket. He is lightly raced and looks open to plenty of improvement and I don't think he will need to improve massively to be good enough to take this. He tackles this trip for the first time but has shaped as if seven furlongs would be perfect for him.
