York-Races-006

16:50 York

This is a good looking Listed stakes over five furlongs and we don't have a huge field to pick through as is often the case in these types of races.

The William Haggas trained Muthmir is good enough to have won a Group 2 over this distance and if he is on his game then he has to be feared. He ran poorly last time out on the Temple Stakes at Haydock but the ground was almost certainly too slow for him and today's firmer ground should be much more to his liking.

Kingsgate Native is an old favourite of mine and is still going strong at eleven years old. He usually runs his race at this level and if he manages to catch the breaks at the right time he has an outside chance of a place at a big price.

Kachy, trained by Tom Dascombe, has won three of his four races over this distance with his only reverse coming in the Temple Stakes. Like Muthmir, he prefers the firmer ground and as a three year old he is open to plenty of improvement. Richard Kingscote is likely to have him right up with the pace from the start and he has the ability to hold off all challengers if he gets an easy lead.

Marsha was switched back to five furlongs last time out and won a Listed race at Ayr in extremely striking fashion. She pulled too hard early on but as they entered the final furlong she drew clear on the bit and won as easily as she liked. This is a tougher race but the fashion in which she destroyed the field at Ayr gives the impression that there is plenty more to come from this Sir Mark Prescott filly and I really like her chances in this today. She is likely to be held up just off the pace and I am hopeful that she settles a little better this time which can only add to her chances.

Today's Selection
