A Star Has Been Dimmed
I would like to begin with a quick mention of the brilliant Kauto Star who passed away on Tuesday after a freak accident. He was an amazing horse with the heart of a Lion and had everything. He won over two miles in the Tingle Creek which showed his speed and his stamina was amazing to get him home in two Gold Cups.
Owner Clive Smith told BBC Radio 5 live: “It is really devastating - he was looking fit and well at Laura Collett's yard. The main injury was to the neck, as it gets worse it attacks the spinal cord. He also fractured his pelvic bone. The vets made him comfortable but the kindest thing was to euthanize him. It was a horrible moment. He was such a wonderful horse, but he did not suffer.”
His rider Laura Collett said: “I’m devastated to announce Kauto Star sustained injury in the field, and with his best interest at heart a decision was made to put him to sleep. It's just horrendous. He was out in the same field he was out in every day. We don't really know what happened, but he injured his neck and pelvis.”
Wimbledon Day 5
It has been a scorching week so far at SW19 and it looks set for another fine day. There are some really interesting match ups for round three of the men’s side of the draw.
The Australian Nick Krygios has had a rapid rise through the rankings since he shot to fame last year after dumping Nadal out in the fourth round. Today’s third round match is a repeat of last year’s quarter final against Milos Raonic. Raonic proved too strong in 2014 winning in four sets, however, with Krygios being a year stronger and wiser I am taking him to provide a little bit of an upset against the number seven seed. At best price 15/8 I think this offers a little bit of value and is worth a point bet.
Cilic against Isner will be another battle of the huge serves and although I don’t have a strong opinion of the winner, I think the first set especially will be tight. I am going with a double of over 10.5 games in the first set of both of the matches I have mentioned here at odds of around 2.41.
Tour De France 2015
The Tour De France starts tomorrow so we will have a preview of the race together with a strong fancy for the overall winner.
Today’s bets
Krygios v Raonic – 1 point Krygios win @ 15/8 (Boylesports)
Krygios v Raonic & Cilic v Isner – double, over 10.5 games in the first set @ 2.41 (Paddy Power)
