Arsenal's Final Premier League Position: 5th

This Premier League Review sees Arsenal's season assessed, ultimately it is the first time in 25 years they have failed to qualify for the Champions League.

Wenger's side came into the season on the back of a second-placed finish, they were runners-up to Ranieri's Foxes.

It was a season that saw Arsenal continue the all too familiar theme, a top four finish and a last 16 exit in the Champions League.

The challenge for the Gunners this season was to break that tradition, by making strides in both Premier competitions.

There were huge question marks over whether Wenger is the man to take Arsenal forward, he has accepted a two-year contract extension.

This season was always going to be tough, with Wenger pitting his wits against the likes of Klopp, Guardiola, Mourinho, Conte and Mauricio Pochettino.

Ultimately though it is another disappointing season, despite winning the FA Cup they will be playing in the Europa League.

Great Start

Arsenal enjoyed a poor start to the season, losing a seven-goal thriller at the Emirates in the opening game.

They went on an excellent run, going the next 14 matches unbeaten winning 10 and drawing 4.

They suffered their usual collapse midway through January, losing three of four fixtures in the Premier League.

There was also a complete annihilation in the Champions League, losing 10-2 on aggregate against Bayern Munich.

The Gunners finished second bottom of the top six mini-league, with just one win against top six opposition.

They finished 18 points behind Antonio Conte's side, with that horror run in January all but ending their Premier League hopes.

Cup Success

Arsenal managed to win the FA Cup for the third time in four seasons, partly appeasing their disgruntled fans.

They managed to beat two excellent sides on their way to winning the trophy, beating Manchester City and Chelsea.

It's a run of results that will give Arsenal hope, that and their excellent end of season form.

Top Stats

Alexis Sanchez enjoyed an incredible season, ending the club's top scorer with 24 goals and assister with 10.

Granit Xhaka completed the most passes for the Gunners, despite fears over his disciplinary record.

Laurent Koscielny won the most aerial battles, had the most clearances and interceptions to complete a fine season.

Their final points tally was 75, that was 4 points better than last season, despite finishing three places lower.

Again this season will still be hugely disappointing, with Thursday nights in the Europa League a tough juggling act.

Transfer Speculation

Wenger will be looking to add quality to his side, he will need to completely change the mentality in the Arsenal dressing room.

They have been linked with several huge players, with Alexandre Lacazette and Kylian Mbappe the most recent.

The Gunners will need to have a balanced approach with their squad, cutting out the rubbish and bringing in quality.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is another player rumoured to be departing the Gunners, along with Theo Walcott.
