The ratings system and top picks are used to best effect when early morning odds are taken, as with any system getting VALUE is very important, the selections are usually on site by 8am to allow members the best chance to take these prices.
The Value selections arent affected as much by early odds as they are usually higher priced selections and not subject to large bets.

I was going to say would it be an idea (maybe) to have a next best option in the event of non runner, maybe the next best rated and put in brackets by the side of the first option, but then having said that the first choice could pull out at only an hours notice and we’d lose a decent price on the next best selection I guess

Capital venture 10/1 0.4 & (0.40), that’s 60p & 40p. If you do £10 it’s £6 on the top rated and £4 on the 2nd rated. Or level stakes all the way.
Guys could you please remind me what you all do with the top 2 rated selections? Up until now I have only bet on the Top picks and Values for small stakes (good job I only raised the stakes slightly today to 1% of my new bank!).
Do you dutch the two horses in the proportion indicated or do you place as forecasts/reverse forecasts? Dean what was your original intention for these selections?

Dan i started doing the placepots for a bit of fun on face book and the first 3 all won so i started posting them on here.
Andy we can only have so many top picks, if there are too many i have to make the decision and cut some of them it was just unlucky that was one of them. On your other point the values were born when it was noted that it was profitable to follow the second selection or the higher priced of the 2 so its not really about the price of other selections its just taken on the supposed weaker of the 2.
.. and then a Value Selection comes in and wins at 7/1, how can a Value Selection be priced at 7/1 when there’s 4 higher priced Top Pick Selections?, Daniel.. not telling anyone to suck eggs but from personal experience I find place pots & multiples very expensive in the long run, I put down as a money maker for the Bookmaker but each to their own
Well these placepots are proving a bit of waste of money at minute, can i ask what your long term profit is on these Dean? Just wanna know if they’re worth sticking with long term or not. Cheers.

Guys there was only Betfair showing a price for Crannaghmore Mist when i got on so we will mark results from the best you guys can get, Skybet is 7s now, what did you get Andy?
Yes the service is friendly and I have no complains there. I would say though that it takes discipline and a big bank cause sometimes there is losing runs like with any service and your faith will be tested. We went through a rough patch in January and February but now its looking good again and its the long term proffit that counts and thats what you need to focus on. So keep that in mind also. Hitting big price winners is not easy and there has been blank days but you need to keep at it and not miss any day cause you could miss a 30 point day and it would make all the difference if you didnt bet that day of course

I have records of all bets since then using bet365 BOG prices and early prices right in the morning when they are posted. Just to clarify they are my own records I do not have anything to do with this site I am just a customer like you. I usually see the records that are posted here and they tend to be a little higher than mine either cause they are done with betfair prices or maybe because Dean has the selections a little earlier and gets better prices or maybe because you could probably get better prices if you had accounts with several bookies and took the best price on each bookie for each horse but my records are using bet365 alone and keeping the rare to place bets as EW half point bets since you can rearely bet to place on bet365. If you want them I can share them with you just tell me your email account and I will do that but as I said they are similar to the ones posted here just a little under those in terms of proffit but not by much

Yeah, I’m happy with what Deans doing, just a suggestion that’s all..
Im happy with this time in the morning I usually get close enough to Deans prices and that is good enough to proffit. In fact I preffer it early in the morning while I have my morning coffe rather than in the evening cause I work late sometimes and it would be a lot more difficult for me unless it was really late when I get off work. I guess everyones situation is different but from my own point of view I am happy with early morning 🙂

Andy, its just not possible mate, i start at 10am and apart for maybe an hour breaks work through till 7pm then im up at 4am next day until i post. It would mean working until around 10pm and i think the wife would have something to say about that. I know some services do it but all my work is done manually and takes a lot of time.

Whilst you’re doing level stakes just have a pen & pad to hand & paper trade 1% of your bank roll.. what I mean by this is, (for example) start off with £1000 and stake 1% (£10 per point), should you gain £200 in the first day then the next stake is £12 per point (£1000+ £200 = £1200), I did this with Deans Top Picks when I just started in December and I turned £1000 into over £5500 in a month.. but just paper trade for now with that & monitor it for now if you plan to just do level stakes for starters.. 🙂

Andy, i couldnt pinpoint one thing and say thats what went wrong, but last saturday was the first time in ages i looked at the cards and thought this is gonna be a good day, i had actually forgot what that was like, i was getting used to seeing crap everyday and it became the norm, so that defo played a part but how big a part i dont know.

We learn from mistakes and we move on mate. Yes best to stay out if racing is poor. From now on just dont post any tips if the racing is not up to standard its ok to just sit on the fence once in a while.
What a shame with dont pay the ferry man I watched the race and that horse never travelled well 🙁 if it wasnt for that one I would be over 400 pounds richer 🙁

I couldn’t agree more Dean, I’ve been close to saying something similar a number of times. At the end of the day its profit we’re all after, and quality rather than quantity. If there are days without racing then big deal. Theres plenty of other tipsters out there that im sure many of us use as well to compensate on days when there are no bets. All i know is virtually everytime you think that the racing is good we make profit and when you say the racing is poor we almost inevitably lose money. Lets focus in on the good days and sort the wheat out from the chaff! You’re on a roll now lets keep this baby moving!
Looking at the last few days its clear to me now that its simply not worth risking our profit when the racing is bad. In hindsight there were lots of days i should have said no bets, but i thought i was letting members down by not giving any bets, i know now the opposite is true. In future if its bad we sit on our profit until it gets better.

I have done the weekly results and all well that ends well as the saying goes, at least for top picks and ratings anyway, finishing with 9.5 and 14.1 points profit. The values like the rest have previously had a tough few weeks but performed steadily all week before finishing with an excellent 25.5 points profit on saturday giving us 31.5 points profit for the week.

Great day so far. Im down overall like anyone else following Deans top picks since Xmas and it is frustrating but i have to say i do think he’s been hit by some kind of unlucky second place curse, so many close losers. When you see a rank outsider like that’s the deal storm home today you think: this guy is a betting god, where you pull out tips like that one from i don’t know. But the consistency has just been lacking so far this year but from the amount of close runners up i can certainly see things turning round and am gonna stick with my fifty point bank, and id personally urge anyone else thinking of giving up to do the same. Im sure things will turn in our favour soon. Lets hope for a few more late winners at wolves to get what we truly deserve from todays great tipping.

Yes its getting a bit out of hand now. I always give things a decent crack of the whip and will give it till end of month and see where we stand. Dean clearly had a few good months at end of last year, hence why he’s got a few supporters on here, but i wonder if those were “lucky” months. It would be interesting to know what the LONG TERM profitability is for these ratings – ie. the last two or three years? Anyone can have a lucky few months, and to be fair, an unlucky few months, its the year on year results that really matter. What are they out of interest Dean?

Not a good day at all yesterday. The Top Picks performed worst of all with a big single day loss.
The values fared best but only finished level. Very frustrating that Briar Hill was only a place selection as it won by 7 lengths at big odds.
The Ratings only had a 5/19 dutching SR resulting in a loss of -4.5pts.
I’m not enjoying being the reporter of bad news day after day so let’s hope we can find a few nice priced winners today.

Different horses prefer different surfaces and different track conditions. It pays to know which horses like what. The going is a major factor in horse racing and knowing what surface certain horses prefer is crucial. Obvious ability and OR clearly the most important factors but for me the ground comes next, then the distance.
You will have heard many a commentator, trainer or horse racing pundit mention the ground conditions and trainers will not risk running horses their horses in conditions that the feel are unsuitable.
I suspect that’s why Andy mentions that.
Anyway, let’s hope for a good Day 2 at the festival and plenty of winners among Dean’s selections.

The bad weather and abandonments this year is like nothing we have had for many a year and quite a few services are suffering just like we are. Of course i look for selections with form on soft/heavy but because weve had so much of it, sometimes the horses with that form arent good enough to reccomend and i have to take a chance on a better horse that is maybe unknown on that ground.

Great point andy one I’ve thought myself as well. During winter its muddy, fact, some horses go well in the mud some don’t. just choose ones that do like softer ground. Simple. To be fair its not so much been Dean complaining about the ground but andy. I think he should perhaps get a job in the winter and save his “professional gambling” for the summer! Lol!

A fairly level day for me as I only got 5/1 on Jacob’s Son.
What a cracking 1st day at the festival – I hope you all enjoyed it?!
Oscar, picking winners is tough whether it is the festival or not but personally for me I prefer the big meetings as you know that every horse will be trying. There’s rarely a plot horse, races are more truly run and generally run to form.
Just beware of following the Hype! Certain horses win certain races year on year. For example I was right to oppose My tent or yours. Only 4of the 12 favourites to
have gone off at 9/4 or shorter since 1980 have won (the last five shorties have all lost) and that trend continued today. 5 & 6YOs have won the Supreme every year but 3 in the last 15 years and the winner generally comes from the top of the market. As you can probably tell, i was on Champagne Fever and called that one right. I opposed The Fly with Zarkandar but you’ve got to respect the way he dug in and ended up going away in the end…truly a remarkable horse and great to watch.
I think the best thing to do with Cheltenham is not to bet on any of the races lol It is mad difficult trying to pick a winner among 24 horses at the highest competitive level. Maybe the first race with 12 horses and R Walsh on a good horse and good as he always is at the big races but even those are hard to call the Mcoy-Herderson horse was also a great horse but I think was beaten cause he was new to the course and that hill at the end of it is not an easy one to handle. Anyways Dean I am glad to see that you keep your selections all accross all meetings festival or not. Stay to your rules and do not change a thing 🙂 We should stay true to the same method all the way through

The Top Picks drew a blank day for the 2nd day in a row.
The values had a lovely winner with Molly’s a Diva. As BF went down yesterday when this race was off my bot didn’t place this. So very annoying as it was a selection on one of my micro systems too so missed +20pts!! Sod’s bloody law…
The Ratings had a mixed day with a few winning dutches early in the day, nothing in the middle, where the damage was done and finished with 3/6 at the end of the day.

As for Cheltenham Andy, i dont think we can swerve it, ive been doing as much extra prep for it as i can and we will treat it as any other and see how it goes.

Another tough week, ratings were pretty steady and managed over 17 points profit, mainly down to a really good thursday. Value selections had a few blank days which are usual but really exceled on thursday with 29 points profit and ended the week up by 4 points. Top picks are the only one really letting the side down at the moment and it finished the week 16.5 points down.
The month so far is showing profit but it was the cracking start we had which is really holding up the top picks and we need them to turn around quickly and show the form we had last year.

Yes i agree eamon. My brother strikes again unfortunately. Ive been sharing this account with my brother, tho I’ve told him before not to use it. Most of the posts on here have been by myself but some of the posts have been by my brother, you can probably tell which ones. Im a serious long term gambler like yourself and he’s a fly by night more money than sense type. Mainly he likes winding people up. I’ve told him not to use the account again so apologies to Dean, keep up the sterling work and the tide will change soon im sure. Anything i post on here from now on will be from me i can assure you of that.

I share your frustrations but Andy is talking a lot of sense. I’m not sure which system you are following – the Picks, Values, or Ratings but long term is the name of the game with whichever one you are following…I’m not talking 2 weeks, 4 weeks, 8 weeks but 12 weeks as a minimum. My recommendation is that after 3 months you should filter your systems and run a ‘health check’ on them. You should have set aside a bank of 100pts for each system and by all means check it regularly, daily, weekly, monthly but don’t assess it in the interim. Do an assessment after three months. You’ll know how your 100 pt bank is doing so treat it accordingly. Not so long ago I noticed Andy was betting £100 stakes, that’s down to £60 now and he’s still extolling the virtues as he’s been with Dean for over three months ie long term. If your bank is gone, it’s gone but it should be something that you are prepared to risk. Gambling is by it’s very nature risky. You’ve made a call to risk of 100pts so I would stick with it. If you haven’t set aside a minimum 100pts, then you are over-staking. I’ve been there, done it, felt the pain but by not following the system requirements you are taking a high-risk stance. If you lose you bank quicker then that’s your fault, no-one else’s (as painful as that is to hear).
It’s human nature to learn from your mistakes and despite people telling you stuff, a lot of the time you have to go through it yourself to really learn and embrace it. It takes an astuter man than met to learn from SOMEONE else’s mistakes.
My advice is to reduce your stakes and bet small stakes and hopefully build your bank up slowly.
I disagree about the subs. This should be completely separate from your betting bank.
Apologies if it feels like I’m telling people how to suck eggs but there’s a lot of unfair flack flying around this forum and I felt that I would give my two pence worth.
My daily summaries are a ‘warts and all’ as it’s my own money that I’m betting with too. They’re also my own blog on the odds that I achieved as I rarely get the one that Dean manages early doors. I will start getting up earlier to get them on before work in due course as the value is clearly in the early prices. My records aren’t detailed enough to compare the early prices (inc NRs, rule 4’s) with what I get but my feeling is that the early prices are better.
Dan, the top picks had a ‘mare today and Dean will be first to admit this BUT did he get so very wrong?! I don’t think so…Araldur came 2nd, admittedly beaten 4 lengths and heavily backed into 4/1 from 17/2; Miss Bunter was btn a nk backed in from 10/1!, and flying power came 2nd as well btn 3/4 l. That’s not poor tipping. That’s just unlucky in my book – frustrating, but unlucky. Another day they’ll all win. That’s racing…the highs and lows!
Personally, I had a -25pt drawdown today across all three systems so I’m not particularly happy either…in fact it’s very annoying but for me if we’re knocking on the door with selections that are 10/1 or better I know that they will come good on some days and I for one am happy take to take that risk.

Dean normally does a round up at the end of each month, admittedly for the prices that he gets very early morning. I’ve been recording the daily P&L for all three systems using the prices that i get on B365 or betfair, normally placed around 9.00-10.00 depending when I get to a computer. I’ve been doing this since about 4th/5th last month so haven’t had a full month to report on yet. Will be at Cheltenham next thur and fri so will probably miss the bets that day so hopefully someone can update the blog in my absence.

The Top Picks had a winner but I couldn’t place my bet on Etxalar as B365 was only offering SP…what’s that all about. Looks like they’ve changed the layout a bit?!
The values had a cracking day although I missed the value on Mitchell’s way and only got 13/2 on this selection and 9/1 on Oil Burner. Jumps Rd won at 10’s and My idea went close coming 3rd.
The Top Rated started very well and was up 8.5pts at one point but couldn’t find another winner in the remaining 8 races but finished in the black.
All in all a very good day if you followed all 3 systems with a cumulative profit of +16pts.
Unlucky today. We hit one winner and 3 seconds but two of them really close ones. It could have been a massive day for us its a shame. But it looks a lot more promising already and we are still in proffit for the month.

The values continues to suffer but went close with Modern Lady, finishing 2nd at 10/1 but in truth she was well held by Hayley on board the fav.
The Top Rated had a stop/start sort of day and after a stuttering start, picked up a few winners but finished with three losing races to give a loss on the day.
Wouldn’t be ridiculous if got one of those 50/1 shots or even a 25/1, Andy.

She’d shown nothing in all her races, finishing 2nd last or last in nearly all 13 races and is another who chose today to be the day she upped her game! How can you compete with that. Greenhead High gave some damage limitation to the Top Picks, although i only got 4/1 not the early 6’s.
The Values had a nice 8/1 winner with Masterful Act but nothing else to leave us level pegging.
The Top Rated fared best of all, finishing 2pts in profit.
Not too much damage done if you were following all three systems. Another close day with five 2nd placed horses, esp Sea Saffron at 10/1 which was a selection on all three systems! And done by a bottom weight 22/1 shot who decided to win his 1st race in 16, appreciating the step up in trip and was not hampered by the move up in class …annoying.

A cracking day yesterday and a win across all three systems although the Top Picks and Values absolutely nailed it with a combined +27pts for me with 5 decent priced winners.
Quentin Collonges was most impressive and was not to be beaten in a combative finish with Mr Moss, who finished well clear of the remaining pack. A nice 10/1!
The Top Rated finished up 4.5pts for the day with six winning dutches.
All in all a very good day for me, made even better with Pasha Du Polder winning at 18/1. This is one of my little micro systems for Paul Nicholls horses that pulled up last time out (PULTO).

Yeah certainly was a good day would have been even better if i hadnt bottled Mwaleshi but i would defo settle for that every day.
Oscar one of the things i look for is previous runs at the track even if it was a poor run 3 years ago i beleive it is a major plus if the horse has run the track before. also have a look at the stallion at the same track, you will often find they both run well at the same venue.

A great day for the Top Picks with over 10pts profits.
The values fared worst of all with no winners but as Dean has mentioned longer losing runs are to be expected as the odds are higher.
The Top rated had a few 2nd and 3rd placed selections and a few selections had no 2nd dutch and despite three winners we finished in the red to the tune of 6pts.
Overall a cumulative loss across the systems but most members seem to only use the Top Picks.
Let’s hope for a good Saturday although Dean says that the fare on offer is pretty poor – all the big guns being rested for Cheltenham, perhaps.

Also got bored Thursday night so looked at Flash Scores(.com) & looked at the games on offer, thought up a strategy based on value and came up with this..
The first 12 games that had a goal in the first 20 minutes or so, I backed the losing team, leaves the other team over three quarters of the game to turn it around, think I laid out £120 and collected £290, I’ll do it again today but will think twice when a leading team scores, (depending on odds obviously)
I follow a stats based football service (over/under,corners, handicaps etc etc), on Premiership games, although this year concentrated on the horse systems. Lucky as over the season the service is down!
