Manchester United vs FC Basel – Tuesday 12th September 2017 – 19:45 - BT Sports

Man United are 1/6 with Romelu Lukaku at 11/4 to score first.

Manchester United face FC Basel at Old Trafford on Tuesday evening, in the first round of Champions League group stage matches this season.

United come into this match on the back of a frustrating 2-2 draw against Stoke, a ground they can't seem to win at.

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting (43) scored his and Stoke's first goal just before half time.

That lead lasted less than three minutes, with Marcus Rashford (45+1) equalising for Manchester United.

Romelu Lukaku made it 2-1 to United (57), with the Belgian continuing his fine start with his third goal of the season.

Choupo-Moting returned with his and Stoke's second (63), ensuring that his side enjoyed a share of the spoils.

Early Favourites

United have enjoyed an exceptional start to the season, but their 100% record is now over after that draw.

They looked very shaky defensively at Stoke, with Phil Jones enjoying a moment to forget for Stoke's second goal.

Mourinho's side had started the season with a 100% record and without conceding a goal.

This is Mourinho's first Champions League game in charge at United and he will be looking for a win.

United Favourites

Manchester United come into this match as favourites, with home advantage and their pedigree informing the odds.

Jose Mourinho will be looking to continue United's unbeaten start to the Premier League campaign.

United will be looking for a first win in four matches against FC Basel.

Tough Defeat

FC Basel come into this match on the back of a 2-1 defeat at home against Lausanne Sports, a tough result.

Ricky van Wolfswinkel gave Basel the lead inside the half hour mark from the penalty spot (29).

The game came to life when Basel captain Marek Suchy was sent off for a second bookable offence (53).

Benjamin Kololli equalised just a minute after the sending off (54), a vital goal in the match.

Nicolas Getaz was sent off for the visitors (71), again his second bookable offence making it 10 men each.

Joel Geissmann scored the winner with just ten minutes remaining (80), a vital win for the bottom side.

Champions League Target

Basel will be delighted to be taking part in the Champions League group stages, they progress having won the league last season.

That defeat was their first six matches, with two draws and three wins prior to the defeat against Lausanne.

They find themselves in a tough group, with Manchester United, CSKA Moscow and Benfica.

The Swiss Champions will be targeting a third place finish as a minimum, but they will be confident of producing a few shocks.

Basel Underdogs

The visitors come into this match as underdogs, with United's pedigree and home advantage informing the odds.

This will be a tough match for Basel, although their record against United is very impressive.

Their last defeat against United came in the 2002/2003 season, in their previous three meetings they are unbeaten.

Basel are 18/1 with Ricky van Wolfswinkel at 8/1 to open the scoring.
