Champions League

The first legs of the Champions League quarter finals take place this week and there are some potentially brilliant matches to look forward to. The top two teams in Spain meet at the Camp Nou tonight where Barcelona take on Atletico Madrid. This is sure to be a fascinating game with Barca sure to have plenty of possession and trying to break down a very stubborn Madrid defence. The league match here earlier on in the season ended in a 2-1 for Barca, however they had to come from behind that night and Madrid finished the match with nine men.

Barca haven't had much time to recover from a gruelling encounter with arch rivals Real Madrid on Saturday where they went down 2-1 to a late Ronaldo goal. Atletico on the other hand had a very easy 5-1 over Real Betis so should be the fresher of the two teams. Due to this and the fact that they more than matched Barcelona here in the league this season, I think they have a reasonable chance of holding out for the draw and maybe even sneaking a win. They can be backed at 7/1 for the victory and it is worth a little interest.

The other quarter final taking place tonight sees German champions Bayern Munich host Benfica. On paper this appears to be a fairly one sided tie and it is hard to see past a win for Munich by at least a couple of goals here tonight. Therefore I am going to be backing them at minus two on the handicap.

Benfica do have quite a strong attacking unit so I am sure they will be able to create a few chances which they will need to take to have any chance in this tie.
