Rose To Blossom On The Dunes Of The Bay

The US Open goes to Chambers Bay for the first time and with its massive rolling fairways, images-2towering dunes, undulating greens and unpredictable coastal winds, this traditional linksland course will provide a test unlike any other US Open has ever provided.

The type of characteristics needed to do well on a course like this include a being long off the tee, having a high ball flight, and possessing an imaginative short game. Three players immediately spring to mind, Rory McIlroy, Henrik Stenson and six-time Open runner-up Phil Mickelson. McIlroy is plenty short enough in the betting at 7/1 and appears to be going through a slight lull, Mickelson’s best chance would appear to have gone and it would take a huge turn around in fortune to win this. That leaves us with Stenson, he’s being playing some fantastic golf recently and at a best price 30’s, he definitely looks a value each way play.

Another I fancy with a great chance is the 2013 champion Justin Rose. This is the type of course he excels on, there are certain similarities with Royal Birkdale, which is the course Rose announced himself as a potential major champion whilst still an amateur. Rose’s form this year has been very good and it includes a second placed finish at the Masters in April, therefore at 20/1 I am backing him to give us a good run for our money.
